Is it wrong to pray for God
to make me more successful so that I can be more humble? I often engage in
spirited debates about such questions with my ego.
Paul writes: "We know that 'We all possess knowledge.' But
knowledge puffs up while love builds up." (I Corinthians 8:1b, Today's
NIV). If "knowledge puffs up," then we professors are in ever-present
danger of having egos resembling threatened blowfish.
