Dave Akerly has spent the past quarter-century covering events and personalities of Mid-Michigan. From his time as news anchor at WLNS-TV 6, to his recent service to the State as Director of Communications for the Michigan Department of Human Services, Akerly has always been close and "dialed in" to the news and the people who make it. An Emmy-nominated reporter, Akerly has been honored many times over the years for his reporting and writing (in partnership with talented photographers and producers) by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press. His reporting work has taken him from the heart of Lansing to overseas in Europe, drug-cartel ravaged border zones in Mexico and along the Gulf Coast in the days following Hurricane Katrina.

Akerly also served as Sports Director of WLNS from 1990-2002 and enjoyed a seat covering some of the greatest athletic events of the era for MSU, Michigan, the Detroit teams, and the local preps. He also started the Friday night staple known as "The Fifth Quarter." Akerly has also assisted numerous charities and non-profits over the years, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, in raising millions of dollars used right here in Mic-Michigan.

Dave was born and raised in Seattle, before heading to Michigan. He says it's okay to cheer for the Seahawks and the Lions, as long as they don't play each other. He's happily married, with four terrific children and two very spoiled German Shepherd dogs.
